Today’s pick is Roger Waters’ album Radio K.A.O.S. This is his second release after going solo. I haven’t listened for years. Brings back memories.
Radio K.A.O.S. is a concept album telling the story of a 23 year old disabled man, Billy from Wales.
Billy is confined to a wheelchair and is thought to be mentally a vegetable. However, Billy is highly intelligent but has no way of expressing himself. But he has a gift - he can hear radio waves in his head and with the aid of a cordless phone he starts to experiment and access computers and synthesisers, learning to speak through them. After life throws him into LA, he starts communicating with a radio show host (radio KAOS), telling him the story of his life. A full description can be found at wikipedia.
Another interesting fact I didn’t know about when I was feeding myself with this album several years ago is that the album cover contains a morse code message that says “Roger Waters Radio KAOS Who Needs Information Th”. Another morse code message is hidden in the start and the end of the album. Now the past is over but you are not alone
Together we’ll fight Sylvester Stallone
We will not be dragged down in his South China Sea
of macho bullshit and mediocrity
The message expresses Roger Waters’ aversion against the way Sylvester Stalone movies glorify violent actions.
