What do you do when you don’t like total silence but you have to work and concentrate?
The answer for me is simple! Choose a band with instrumental songs - so there won’t be any lyrics to take away your focus.

With this in mind I chose - once again - Tin Hat (Trio) as band of the day.

They started as Tin Hat Trio in 1997 in San Francisco as an acoustic chamber music group. After releasing 4 albums under this name - Memory Is an Elephant (1999), Helium (2000), The Rodeo Eroded (2002) and Book of Silk. (2004) -, one of the members - Rob Burger (accordion, piano, pump organ, harmonica, marxophone) - left the band so the other members Carla Kihlstedt (violin, viola, vocals) and Mark Orton (guitar, dobro, banjo) changed the name of the band to Tin Hat, and released a new album under this name The Sad Machinery of Spring (2007)

They manage to combine a lot of styles - blues, bluegrass, jazz, avant-garde, folk - rendering a unique sound.

I came across this band about two years ago, and I fell in love with their Book of Silk (2004) - which still is my favourite album.
The soothing-without-being-boring sounds have accompanied me in lots of my working moments :)

  1. Their instrumental music is very enjoyable. Great soundtrack for lazy afternoons. Thanks fireflower for the recommendation.
